Do you ever forget to consult with God before making a move? I read a really good devotional today entitled, “Have you asked God about it?”. The devotional came in our K-LOVE daily devotional that we get for free from Lifeway Christian Book Store.
The devotional began with Joshua 9:14, “So the men {of Israel} took some of their provisions, and did not ask for the counsel of the LORD.”
The Israelites had just crossed through the Red Sea without getting soaked, and had conquered Jericho and it seems had lost all sense of humility. They had become “over-confident” and didn't consult the Lord before making their next move. This is the type of mentality that caused Joshua to sign a peace treaty with the Gibeonites, which turned out to be a not so wise decision.
No matter what, we need to ask the Lord first before making a move. This may seem a little silly, especially when we think of all the decisions we must make in a day. However, this is one of the most important applications that we as Christians need to incorporate in our lives. If we profess Jesus as Lord of our lives, it should make perfect sense to consult Him before doing anything with our lives. This may often mean a long waiting period before actually taking a step, as we wait on the Lord. When we act out in haste or lack of faith in the Lord, we may be causing ourselves and those around us much heartache and grief. We may not actually see or feel the repercussions of a bad decision until much later, but we will reap it at some point.
May we always seek the counsel of the Lord with every aspect of our lives, whether big or small.
Job 12:13

“The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation.”

“1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He will be like a tree {firmly} planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.”

My dear friend, your posts are always uplifting. Thanks for the reminder!
That was one lesson we really learned; we learned also to never move unless we knew there was a good church in the area. If there is not a strong group of God's people it isn't worth the move (unless you are called to Missionary work). One time we had to travel so far to attend church we never felt like we were a part of the community of believers--God has given us other believers for a reason!! So we learned never to do that again!
