Class of 2011

As of yesterday (December 5, 2011) I am now, officially a College Graduate!  It has been hard work, and many tears of frustration have been shed trying to achieve this milestone - but by the Lord's grace and an abundance of encouragement and guidance from my husband (Malachi Sewell - who inspired me to get my degree.  He has 4 degrees!), mother (Dr. Bridgette Davis), Malachi's mother for recommending Ashford University, and a very special Professor (Professor Duyen Nguyen - my Environmental Science Professor), I graduated!  I now hold a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with a Concentration in Education from Ashford University.  I have learned so much, and what is even more special is that I have not wavered in my convictions, beliefs, or worldview.  If anything, pursuing this degree through a secular university only worked to strengthen my convictions, beliefs, and worldview.  I made it through 3 years of college standing firm in my love for the Lord and my family.

It has been an interesting experience, to say the least, but one that I am proud to have accomplished in the face of much adversity.  I was once the person that no one believed would ever accomplish anything; yet by the grace of the Lord, He has accomplished much in me!  He gets all the credit and glory for all achievements in my life.  

And of course, while I hate to admit it, having "credentials" is a nice feeling!

High School Graduate - 1999
USAF Basic Training Graduate - 1999
USAF Dental Assistant Graduate - 2000 (I've even assisted in performing root canals on the Air Force Security Police Dogs when stationed at Barksdale, AFB)
USAF Senior Airman/Journeyman - 2 Year Tour in South Korea at Osan, ABF ROK where I learned skills in Combat Medicine (I've spent at least 8+ hours in Chem Gear, learned how to triage and access critically wounded patients through Combat Exercises repeated every 4 months and headed Infection Control within the Dental Facility when there was no NCOIC available and I implemented a new water purification and monitoring system) -2002-2004 (Total Service Time 1999-2004)

Writer's Block Sabbatical

Do you ever have days where you feel like your energy and motivation level is just being sucked dry?  That is how I have been feeling for a couple of weeks.  I have so much on my plate lately; with taking care of my family, home, school (both mine and homeschool), blogging, and all of the other extra social things I try to keep up with, it is causing me to become very overwhelmed and over taxed.  So, I am simplifying!  As of today I am taking a sabbatical from blogging and other social networking.  I have done this in the past and it helped to de-stress my life and bring back my focus. 

I can’t afford to take a break from school right now because the G.I. Bill is paying our rent, but I am finding that my time is way over taxed with all kinds of different writing, so much so that I am actually beginning to dislike writing.  Every five weeks I have to write a 10 page research paper for each class, and between the writing I do for my blog, facebook, and emails, I am battling horrible writers block and an inability to concentrate when I try to write my research papers. 

Per the advice of a past instructor, whom I adore and highly respect, I have decided that I need to focus my writing efforts on my research papers and other written assignments for now.  I need to set aside specific time to accomplish my school work, and that means I need to cut out things that are stealing that time away.  While I love blogging, I am finding it more and more difficult to write for it right now.  It is like all of a sudden I am scatterbrained…very frustrating.  So, since I cannot stop school right now, the best thing for me to do is step away from extra writing for a while.

I do hope that my faithful readers will understand my current situation and keep me in prayer as I push through my difficulties in writing for class.  I don’t want my GPA to suffer anymore than it has.  In a year I have gone from a 4.0 to a 3.0, and if I continue on the way I have been, it will most certainly dip lower than that. 

In the meantime, feel free to browse through past posts, or take a break yourself and focus on something that might need your attention.  Either way, I pray that all we do glorifies God alone!

This was from one of my school books “The Little, Brown Compact Handbook”. It has been my companion while writing my research papers as I refer to it often to make sure my papers are in APA style. Not very exciting I now…but it was sitting right in front of me!
