"The Return of the Daughters" - A Must See!

Recently my husband and I had the privilege of watching the DVD “The Return of the Daughters”. Anna Sofia and Elizabeth Botkin did an excellent job explaining and encouraging families not be so quick to turn their daughters out once they have become adults by societies standards.

Most young women upon completing high school (whether that is homeschool or public school) venture out into the unknown world of college. What Christian families are failing to recognize is that this simply is not Biblical. Young women are to be under the headship of their fathers until the day they are entrusted a husband. This is contrary to what society has told us since the feminist movement began. Society would have us believe that a woman’s single years are to be “lived up” pursuing higher education and not attaching themselves to any man lest they get side tracked and end up married with children too young. Fathers are pushed to the side lines even during their daughter’s younger years, completely disregarding his God given responsibility of headship over her. This means that he is to protect her, provide for her, love her and guide her by God’s Word, so that when the day comes she will be prepared to submit under the Biblical headship of her husband. What better place to learn Biblical womanhood in regards to wifehood than by submitting under the authority of one’s father?

When a young woman remains in her father’s home until she becomes married, it allows for so much more Biblical instruction, and safeguards her from the enemy’s plans to destroy her innocence and purity. Who says that a young woman should enter into college? Who says that she must postpone marriage and children until she has completed and achieved some lofty career goal and it only set on selfish gain? Every skill and all the knowledge that a young woman needs can be learned from home from the two people who love her and cherish her most; her father and mother.

This DVD includes interviews from Christian families and their young daughters who have decided to be counter cultural and remain in their father’s homes until they are married. The centrality of the home and focusing on how the word of God instructs us to teach our children the ways of the Lord, cannot be completely fulfilled if we launch our children out into the world before they are ready. Our daughters are most precious to us and we cannot fathom throwing them to the wolves of the world simply because it is “tradition” to do so. Haven’t we learned by now that the current state of our culture and society are completely depraved?

We highly recommend this DVD to all Christian families. It is a MUST see and worth every penny to purchase it. You can purchase it from Vision Forum here, or here at the official website.

I really believe that we as Christians need to take a stand and reclaim our families, and not be so hasty in getting rid of our children once they turn 18 years of age. Our roles as parents don’t cease once our children have completed high school, and they certainly should not be expected to launch into the world without being fully prepared for the tasks that God has for them to fulfill. Preparing our daughters for wifehood and motherhood should be number one priority. The years they would spend in college or just roaming around single do not prepare them for this goal. I have heard from many young mothers who are bitter and angry that they are lost as to how to be Biblical wives and mothers because the focus of their “training” as young daughters was not focused on such things. I am of a generation who are far behind the curve on all things domestic. I too fall into feelings of bitterness and frustration because I was taught that obtaining a college education and achieving some hirer career goal was my purpose. Never was wifehood and motherhood made a priority in lessons learned or taught.

So I roll up my sleeves and dive into God’s word to learn how to do my “job” of wife and mother. The world certainly has no knowledge of such things nor do they value these roles, which have caused a terrible breakdown within the family.

Hi Crystal! I am an online friend of Jessica H's and recently discovered your blog.

Only a couple of posts in and you are already challenging me to think about things in a new way. Thank you for that and for speaking God's truth so openly.

aj,

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. I can take no credit for any "rethinking" that you are doing...God gets all the credit for convicting His children.

I know how hard it is to re-evaluate everything in our lives, even what and how we think about things.

I do pray that if you choose to continue to follow my blog that it won't only be encouraging but it will challenge you, as it does me to write these posts, to really seek the Lord and allow Him to completely mold and shape you into His perfect image, no matter how painful the process.

God Bless
